In its 22 episodes, it managed to leave a huge impression on me and become a story I hope I never forget. However, please do not take my words about this show lightly just because of this. I know I tend to be quite positive in my reviews, giving shows more credit than they probably deserve. I would recommend this to classical music fans, this anime is perfect for them! – B-Ro LowKev’s Take Other than that it was a great anime and I would give it an 8 out of 10. It would get to the point that I would just be glad the sad moment would happen because the hinted to it so much. This also made it hard for me to feel sad when I should have, the show just seemed to give too much warning for anything that would be sad. I found myself guessing what would happen episodes in advanced. A problem that I did have with this show was how predictable it was. They weren’t the two dimensional characters that I would expect from an anime that focused so much one thing. I found myself able to connect to several characters even though I not into music that much. One thing that this show did extremely well with was the characters. I am not saying that the music was not done well, I am simply say that it is not for everyone. I have to say right off the bat the classical music was not my thing. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso was an anime that I did not think I would enjoy all that much. The slow pacing and predictability drag on the drama and romance in the show, decreasing the effectiveness to which these elements could have been utilized.
It makes it clear that there is no “right” way to do things, something that aligns with the risk themes as well. Your Lie In April does show very well the variety of takes one can have in art, and just approaching life in general. They present the advantages of taking risks in an almost negative light, as the story is told from Kousei’s view. These themes can be underwhelming though, due to Kousei’s presence sucking away some of the strengths Kaori expresses with his submissive attitude. She repeatedly takes risks, often as a result of her never giving up. This anime highly pushes themes of risk and perseverance, as these are the two things that highly define Kaori, the main female lead. The classical music fits quite well with the atmosphere of the anime, as does the rest of the soundtrack. Honestly, the animation is what kept me going through the series.Īs a show focused on music almost exclusively, the soundtrack is spectacular. It is also highly detailed, even showing the reflections of player’s hands in the polished wood of the piano. It is some of my favorite animation style of any anime I have seen, being very colorful and imaginative. The animation of Your Lie In April is absolutely incredible. Despite this, the characters are all fun and easy for viewers to interact and become attached to. He does not offer any strong characteristics upon his introduction, and his passiveness that forces other characters to push him adds to the drag in the plot. Despite being the lead character, he does very little to drive the plot. The only really weakness in characters is the weakness of the main protagonist, Kousei. The growth of each character is clearly visible, as the plot primarily focuses on Kousei’s development. Your Lie In April does an excellent job in diversifying character personalities and relationships, with each one expressing their own uniqueness. Additionally, the show keeps a narrow focus, leaving the plot, and even subplots, with little variety and feeling repetitive. The problem is only further exasperated by the slow pacing of the show.
This cause the plot to lose a lot of momentum, and causes the show to drag at some points. However, the plot is not extremely extravagant, and suffers from heavy predictability. It does a good job at showing Kousei’s progression, alongside other character interactions. The plot of Your Lie In April is fairly straight forward, making it easy to follow for even new anime fans. His monotonus life was about to change forever. But, then he meets a violinist named Kaori Miyazono who has an eccentric playing style.
